Learning outcomes of the course unit
The course aims to provide the knowledge and understanding of the approach to the patient in oral medicine through the clinical examination of the oral cavity and filling of medical record in order to be able to make a clinical diagnosis and to be able to explain to the patient any subsequent investigation.
Acquire skills related to the differential diagnosis in oral medicine
Acquire the manual on the implementation of the basic maneuvers for inspection, palpation and diagnosis of the main diseases of the oral cavity.
Acquire the ability to perform a diagnostic test with the help of special instruments (pads, needle aspiration, biopsy)
Course contents summary
To know and understand the importance of the first visit in oral medicine, how to fill in the patient's medical record. To perform a correct examination of the patient's mouth. To know and understand the most useful diagnostic tools in oral medicine.
To know how to perform a biopsy and a removal of oral lesion in oral medicine.
Discussion of clinical cases with particular attention to the differential diagnostic processes.
Use of databases to be up to date in oral medicine.
How to fill in the medical record in oral medicine.
Physical examination of the oral cavity: dental and practical examination of the examination of the patient.
Clinical and instrumental diagnosis of the major oral diseases on patients.
How to perform a biopsy of the oral cavity: incisional-excisional-a-map.
Use of the main diagnostic tools in oral medicine: oral swab, oral cytology, histology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam in order to ensure the quality and level of knowledge and understanding of the course content and the ability to apply the acquired knowledge to professional practice. The trial will also evaluate the quality of student participation during lectures.
