Learning outcomes of the course unit
The aim of this course is to make students familiar with the germanic languages, especially in their older forms and make easy linguistic comparations with other languages of the Indo-European linguistic Family.
the course presuppose the knowledge of at least two germanic language, such as German and English.The knowledge of these two language may also be only passive, but an active command of theirs is much better.

Germanic Comparative Linguistics LT
The purpose of the course it to offer to the students a concise but also exhaustive presentation
of the germanic languages especially in their older forms.
This general program will be susceptible to be extendedaccording to the requirements of the students.
The reference manual is maily the "Manuale di linguistica germanica" Di M.Saibene and M. Buzzoni (Cisalpino, Milano). From this year we might use also a further book, namely "I Germani" by M. battaglia, edited by Carocci, Rome. Further bibliografical references could be given during the course.
So called frontal lectures. exercises cannot be excluded.
Assessment methods and criteria
Question could be asked to the students while teaching. These questions are by no means to be considered like a form of pre-exams, but they are nevertheless necessary to check the level of taking in of the information given in the course of the lectures.
Lectures might be also completed through other materials such as maps and so on.
