Learning objectives

<br />The Course is intended to cover the fundamental elements of Psychopathology, Symptomatology, Diagnosis and Therapy of the more important organic psychiatric syndromes and of emerging psychiatric pathologies such as Eating Disorders, Personality Disorders, and Impulse Control Disorders. In a class setting made up of smaller groups, particular attention will be paid to essential concepts regarding the clinical colloquium, the psychodiagnostic evaluations, and the formulation of the psychiatric and drug-therapeutic plan.

THAT THEY HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE FOLLOWING EXAMINATIONS: THREE YEARS OF NEUROLOGY

Course unit content

<br />Current doctrinal approaches in Psychiatry: clinical-descriptive, phenomenological, biological (genetic, biochemical, psychoendocrinological and psychophysiological), behavioral, and social approaches; structure and phenomenology of temperament, of character, and of personality; select topics in Psychopathology: disorders of perception, of attention, of memory, of thought, of intelligence, of consciousness, of affect, of instict, of volition; select topics in semeiology: the psychiatric exam, patient history, psychiatric observation and psychodiagnostic tests. Psychiatric diagnosis: the most recent nosographic systems (ICD-10, DSM IV). Clinical manifestations of: psycho-organic syndromes: mental deficiency, confusional psychosis, postpartum psychosis, mental disorders in cranial trauma, in epilepsy and in syndromes of dementia; Alcoholism and drug addictions: psychoorganic syndromes; Schizophrenia: psychopathology, clinical manifestations, clinical course and prognosis; Chronic Psychoses: paraphrenia; Borderline disorders; Mood Disorders; Unipolar and Bipolar Depression; Mania and Hypomania; Psychogenetic Depression, Endoreactive Depression, Somatic Depression, Masked Depression, Developmental and Involutional Depression; Psychogenetic reactions and personality development. Paranoia; Anxiety disorders: Panic disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Hysteria; Eating Disorders (Anorexia and Bulimia), Personality Disorders. Drug therapy of Psychiatric disorders (major notions of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, effectiveness, tolerance and therapeutic dosages of ansiolytics, antidepressants, mood stabilizers and neuroleptics); individual and group therapy for psychiatric disorders.
