FORENSIC MEDICINE
Learning outcomes of the course unit
The student must acquire the information needed to evaluate his/her professional activity from a legal and ethical standpoint, with specific reference to ramifications within a penal, civil and insurance-social context, and to be able to recognize the principal aspects of forensic pathology.
Course contents summary
Forensic medicine as a branch of medicine: tasks and functions of forensic medicine. Legal medicine and forensic medicine;
- Legal-medical methodology, data evaluation and diagnosis in forensic medicine,
analysis of the relationship of causality, the medical-legal judgment and its
relevance.
- Forensic medicine: technical consultation and examination
- Professional confidentiality and privacy legislation
- Medical activity documentation: health certificate and medical record
- Mandatory reporting
- Medical report and reporting to legal authorities
- Legislation regarding organ transplant
- Regulations of mortuary police
- Forensic thanatology: verification of death and thanatochronology
- Material element of crime; material causality; crime motives
- Psychological element of crime; imputability and its legal and biological bases
- Crimes against life and individual safety
