Learning objectives

The Course teaches the history of Western medicine with the aim of demonstrating that contemporary medical knowledge and practice are the fruit of a complex historical evolution which is still continuing today. <br />
Modern medicine is intrinsically linked to other aspects (social, economic, philosophical and ethical) which involve morally controversial issues in medicine and the public health service: the aim of the course is to give students the opportunity to reflect on the professionalism of the physician, on the choices and the conflicts in the fields of both clinical medicine and research.
