GENERAL AND APPLIED HYGIENE
Learning outcomes of the course unit
Knowledge of basic concepts relative to epidemiology and the prevention of infectious and chronic degenerative diseases with particular emphasis on the epidemiology and prevention of deafness
Course contents summary
Definition of hygiene, Public Health: division and aims.
Concept of health.
Elements of epidemiological methodology.
Epidemiological measures, types of epidemiological study.
Epidemiology of deafness.
The Risk Factor Concept and the Concept of Cause in disease.
General Epidemiology of infectious diseases. - Host-parasite relationships, sources and reservoirs of infection, modes of transmission. Modes of emergence of infections in the population.
Types and levels of preventive intervention. - Notification, quarantine measures, diagnostic investigation of infectious diseases. Sterilisation, Disinfection and Disinfestation. Vaccine prophylaxis, types of vaccine, vaccine strategies and schedules. Passive immunoprophylaxis and chemoprophylaxis.
