The student should accomplish the goal to aquire the basic knowledge on stem cells and their role in tissue homeostasis
Basic knowledge on cell biology and organ development.
Course contents summary
Basic concepts on biological and functional properties of stem cells. Cellular basis of physiologic and pathologic cardiac growth. Experimental and clinical observations on myocardial regeneration
Stem cells and their progeny formation. How to identify a stem cell. Methodlogies of cell tracking. Present concepts on physiologic and pathologic myocardiogenesis.Identification and role of cardiac stem cells. Vascular progenitor cells.Methods of cardiovascular regeneration. How to identify myocardial regeneration. Actual knowledge of cardiac regeneration.
This research field is continuously expanding so that scientific reviews should be consulted. However, a book entitled "Cardiovascular Regeneration and Stem Cell Therapy" ed Annarosa Leri, Piero Anversa and William H Frishman, Blackwell Futura-2007 is available.
