Learning outcomes of the course unit
The course aims to improve the knowledge and understanding of dental, medical and surgical management of patients with systemic disease. To know and to acquire the skills for the diagnosis, prevention and to perform a correct medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the oral mucosa and the jaw bones. Update on the use of lasers and new technologies in dentistry.
Knowledge of the pathogenesis and clinical aspects of the disease mucosa and bone of the district oro-maxillofacial surgery. Knowledge of biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, general pathology, medical and surgical pathology, pathological anatomy, pharmacology.
Course contents summary
To know and understand the importance of a proper examination of the oral cavity, the completion of the medical record and a correct approach to the patient. Being able to prescribe, using the correct procedures, blood, radiological and histological tests.
Discuss clinical cases exposing the diagnostic for the differential diagnosis.
Knowing how to perform regional anesthesia in dentistry and adequate assistance during surgical operations.

Training with tutors for the compilation of medical records, prescription of blood tests and radiological, histopathological and microbiological exams. Guided discussion of clinical cases to enable the student to acquire and apply, under the supervision of a tutor, the correct therapy and/or the management for each patient.
Assessment methods and criteria
Discussion of clinical cases during the course and final oral examination in order to ensure the quality and level of knowledge and understanding of the course content and the ability to apply the acquired knowledge to professional practice. The trial will also evaluate the quality of student participation during the Course.
The course is complemented by the free participation of students in scientific local, national and international organized as part of the clinic, oncology, pathology and oral surgery and the use of lasers and new technologies in dentistry.
