Learning outcomes of the course unit
Theoretical and prescriptive fundamentals of acoustic amplification. Classification of acoustic devices.
The student must have sat the examinations of the Integrated Course of Audioprosthesis Techniques I.
Course contents summary
-Communication: General theory of communication.
-Cybernetic cycle. Use of the computer.
-The Auditory system (elements of anatomy and physiology).
-Hearing and communication.
-Acoustic quanta in information and communication.
-Acoustic and auditory parameters of sound.
-Auditory capacity and auditory perception.
-Auditory development. Maturation of auditory perception:
-Perceptual auditory skills.
-Psychoacoustics: speculative fields.
-Elements of Acoustical physics.
-Weber Fechner’s psychophysical law.
-Decibels (dB SPL, dB HL, dB EM, 0 dB HL in vocal audiometry, calibration of the stimulus in auditory evoked potentials).
-Functions and limits of the human ear; range of audibility.
-The sound spectrum: pure sounds – complex sounds - noise.
-Measuring sound pressure level.
-Measuring noise. The phonometer.
-Noise level variations depending on distance.
-Equal loudness contours.
-Height measurement Scale.
-Phon Scale or subjective intensity.
- 'SON'.Scale. Relationship between SON and PHON.
-The sum of several sounds and their intensity (critical band – Steven’s Power Law).
-Psychoacoustic phenomena - temporal.
