Learning objectives

To provide with basic concepts in positioning, terrain and structures deformation control, map use; to enable the design and adjustment of control networks, including GPS

Course unit content

<br />Geodesy: reference and coordinate systems, geoid and ellipsoid, datum transformation. Map projections. Maps and map use. Surveying instruments: theodolites and levels. Methods and measurements techniques for height and horizontal positioning.  GPS. Network design. Adjustment theory: error propagation, net adjustment, blunder detection, tests for detection of displacements. Application of surveying to civil engineering  <br />
