Learning objectives

The course aims to provide a framework of reference for the development of research in criminology and an introduction to the most recent theories, both psychological and sociological, which are considered necessary to complete the professional profile of legal practitioners working in the field of criminal law.

Prerequisites

In order to take the Criminal Anthropology exam students must have passed the following exams: Private Law Institutions, Roman Law Institutions and Criminal Law I.

Course unit content

The general part will focus on definitions of criminal phenomena and the sources of criminological knowledge.
The most recent methods for evaluating the impact of socio-economic factors as a cause of criminal phenomena will be analysed.
The central part of the course will deal with the topic of studies on the personality of the criminal.
The final part will be dedicated to instruments of social response to crime and to measuring their effectiveness

Teaching methods

The course will be based on classroom lectures.
Seminars for more in-depth treatment of certain subjects to be agreed upon with the students

oral exam with questions relating to the knowledge of forensic psychology and criminal sociology used in criminal proceedings
