Course contents summary
Low and high resolution Mass analyzer: linear quadrupole (Q), triple quadrupole (QqQ), ion trap (IT), time of flight (TOF), quadrupole-time of flight (QTOF), double focusing sector, Ion cyclotron resonance-fourier transform analyser (FTICR). MS and MSn analysis. Aquisition signal modes. Qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Electron impact. Chemical ionization. Atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI). Atmospheric pressure photoionization (APPI). Electrospray: principles and applications. Matrix effect in electrospray.
Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization (MALDI)-TOF-MS. Principles and applications.
Surface Enhanced Laser Desorption Ionization (SELDI)-TOF-MS. Principles and applications.
Inductively coupled plasma (ICP)-MS. Sample preparation methods for the mass spec analysis. Hyphenated techniques: liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry. Liquid chromatography-ICP-MS.
Analytical data quality: evaluation of analytical data reliability in mass spectrometry.
