Learning objectives

The aim is to know the different molecular mechanisms of pathogenicity and virulence, the role and the studies of molecular determinants of bacteria and viruses involved in the infection of humans.

<br />Bacterial and viral systematic taxonomy.<br />Molecular mechanisms of pathogenicity and virulence of bacteria and viruses.<br />Bacterial determinants of pathogenicity.<br />Bacterial toxins: esotoxins and endotoxins and their mode of action.<br />Role of structural and humoral components related to pathogenicity of viruses.<br />Structural determinants and enzymatic proteins playing an essential role during virus infection.<br />DNA and RNA viruses causing infections in humans.<br />Retrovirus, integrating DNA viruses.<br />Prions.<br />Molecular mechanisms of specific host defence activation.<br />Role of antibodies and cell immunity against viral and bacterial infection.<br />Role of the innate host defense and its activation.<br />Humoral molecules production and their role during infection.<br />
