Learning objectives

<br />This is a seminar dealing with peculiar facets of the culture of ancient Syria, which are even relevant for the history of art of the western Mediterranean, due to the well known eastern influences over the arts of Greece and Rome

<br />The course deals with the Oriental ancestors of the culture of the Syrian coast of the Ist millennium BC, and the complex problems of the Phoenician expansion in the Mediterranean, of the foundation of Carthage, and of the Punic colonisation in the western Mediterranean
