Knowledge of the philological criteria that regulate the critical edition of the monumental musical works of the past.
Course contents summary
Title of the course: Production and criticism of a musical text
The observational object of the course will be the national production of the works of Giovanni Pierluigi of Palestrina.
The concept of critical edition of a musical text will be defined, verifiable with concordant sources and finalised to a correct working interpretation.
In particular, the circumstances through which critical text reaches a plausible definition on the historical and exegetical plane will be discussed, and issues related to proper performance practice will be looked into.
