Learning objectives

The course has been designed to enable students to become acquainted with the etiopathogenesis, clinical semiotics <br />and diagnosis of dental and oral cavity diseases requiring surgical treatment.

Prerequisites

Have passed the following examinations: Anatomy, pharmacology, general pathology, specific odontostomatological <br />pathology, radiology, Anaesthesia.

<br /> Anatomy: bones, muscles, nerves, dental elements<br />General principles of surgery: wound healing<br />Hypertrophic wounds and keloids<br />Asepsis, disinfection and sterilization. chemical and physical means.<br />General aspects of infections<br />Specific infective diseases: Abscesses, phlegmons, empyemas, osteitis<br />Antibiotic therapy. Hyperbaric therapy<br />Surgical instruments. Suturing techniques<br />Local anaesthesia<br />Anaesthesia complications<br />Trigeminal neuralgia<br />Dental extractions: deciduous and permanent teeth<br />Extraction complications<br />Soft tissue traumatology<br />Dental fractures. Dental reimplantation<br />Precancerosis. Needle biopsy. Incisional and excisional biopsy<br />Odontogenous and non odontogenous cysts of the maxillaries and of soft tissue. Teaching methods

Students will be offered a learning path with specific knowledge and skills goals consisting of classroom lectures <br />and interactive-practical teaching activities.
