Integrated course unit module: IMAGE DIAGNOSTICS

Learning objectives

This course aims to let the students know and understand basic elements
of techniques, semeiotic, and clinical indications of the imaging
techniques for the assessment of the main thoracic, abdominal, and
central nervous system. It also aims to let the students achieve both
knowledge and comprehension of the imaging techniques to be used for
the assessement of the major body disorders.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this course, students will have to combine their knowledge
in anatomy, pathology and clinical data to prove their comprehension of
the following items:
- basic notion of imaging techniques and radioprotection
-clinical indications for various imaging techniques for the assessment of
several diseases
- basic imaging features of various diseases.

Course unit content

In the first part of this course, several imaging techniques will be
described: conventional radiography, ultrasound, mammography,
computed tomography, magnetic resonance, and angiography. In the
second part of the course, the major clinical applications and the imaging
features of the main thoracic, abdominal, mussculoskeletal, vascular, and
central nervous system disorders will be discussed.

Teaching methods

Lectures, small group activities at the radiologic centres of the Azienda
Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Parma.

Assessment methods and criteria

The proof of the achievements of the course objectives will be obtained
by a written test. Specific questions related to what discussed during this
course will ascertain if the students have achieved both knowledge and
comprehension of the course issues. Students will have to demonstrate
their ability in applying the achieved knowledge through exemplifying
clinical cases.
