The objective of the course is to provide the chemical-physical bases and methodologies for studying, designing and developing non viral vectors, in particular new cationic surfactants that could be used for gene delivery.
Course contents summary
Dispersed systems: size and shape of colloidal particles. Intermolecular forces in colloidal systems. DLVO theory. Surface tension: determination methods Structure and classification of surfactants.
NON VIRAL VECTORS:
The bases of gene therapy. Non viral methods for gene transfection. New non viral vectors for gene therapy: cationic surfactants
Scientific reviews on specific topics.
At the end of course the students can take one final written test or, alternatively, an oral examination during normal examination sessions.
