Learning objectives

<br />Thecourse provides the basic knowledge required for the usage of the most commonelectrical machine and electric drives.

Course unit content

<br /> Electricmachines classification. The main components of the electric machines. <br />Joule lossesand iron losses: the efficiency of the electrical machines.<br />Transformer:ideal transformer and real transformer: no load operations and rated loadoperations.<br />Voltagedrop, power, losses and efficiency of electrical transformer. Three phasestransformers.<br />Inductionmachines: mechanical and electrical behaviour. Induction motor start-up andvelocity regulation.<br />DirectCurrent machines: electrical and mechanical behaviour, start-up and velocityregulation.<br />PermanetMagnet Synchronous Machines (PMSM): a.c. and d.c. PMSM, electrical and mechanical behaviour.<br />Permanetmagnet step motor, reluctance step motor and hybrid step motor.<br />ElectricDrives classification. The main components of electric drives: speed andposition transducers, current transducers. Analog and digital PID regulators,PLC.<br />Electricdrives based on permanent dc motors: torque control and velocity control.<br />DCmotor supply: soft switching chopper.<br />Electricdrives based on PMSM: torque control and velocity control.<br />Electricdrives based on induction motors: torque and speed control.<br />Incrementalelectrical drives: basic stepping motor control circuits.
