FRENCH LITERATURE II
Learning outcomes of the course unit
The course will focus on changes in the image of the individual from the Baroque Era to that of Classicism, against a background of related philosophical, religious and literary issues.
Course contents summary
The course focuses on the genesis of the modern individual from Montaigne to Rousseau. Against a background of literary genres in France from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment, the course will analyse selected texts by Montaigne and Rousseau, in addition to Racine’s tragedy Phèdre.

The exam will be held orally in Italian. Students with a good knowledge of French are also expected to provide a commentary on the texts in the original language.
