GENERAL PATHOLOGY
Learning outcomes of the course unit
Basic knowledge of mechanisms of response to tissue damage (inflammation, hemostasis, repair) and of their alterations. Elementary knowledge of cell death mechanisms and of basic features of tumor cell biology. Acquisition of terminological competences.

Course contents summary
The topics covered during the lectures will be: 1. CELL PATHOLOGY: adaptation to cell damage; cell death through oncosis and apoptosis; basic biological features of tumor cells. 2. INFLAMMATION: Signs and phenomena of acute inflammation, mechanisms of exudate; phagocytosis; chronic inflammation and granulomas; abscesses; ulcers; chemical mediators of inflammation; systemic effects of inflammation; fever; excesses and defects in inflammatory response. 3. HEMOSTASIS AND BLOOD VESSELS DISEASES: primary and secondary hemostasis; hemorrhagic diseases; thrombosis, embolism, infarction; ischemic damage and excitotoxicity; atherosclerosis.
