Acquire basic knowledge of the history, organisation and services of the library.
Course contents summary
Structure, history and services of the public library. The course will focus on the reasons behind the existence of public libraries as a sign of civilisation.
Following a discussion of the birth and existence of libraries over the centuries, documents relating to the history and organisation of the public library will be presented.
Compulsory part.
History of the library. Functions and services of the public library. The OPAC
Students must know the general outline of the history of the main libraries in Italy and abroad and the principle cataloging tools available on-line and in printed form.
Independent reading of materials distributed and photocopied handouts during the course of the lectures.
