EARLY CHRISTIAN LITERATURE (UNIT B)
Learning outcomes of the course unit
In-depth study of early Christian literature and the evolution of the anti-heresy polemic in the East and West, and acquisition of the necessary tools for reading Christian texts.
Course contents summary
Course title: The formation of New Testament canon and the Apocrypha.
After an overview of literary genres and of the elements which characterise early Christian literature, the monographic course will be about the reading and commentary of the significant steps from which there might be inferable traces of the lengthy process which resulted in the formation of New Testament canon.
Module B (5 credits): reading excerpts from Clemente Alessandrino, Origene, Ippolito, Epifanio, Minucio Felice, apart from passages in the New Testament and the Apocrypha.
