Learning objectives

Train students in the diagnostics and treatment of internal medicine diseases by means of a process of full immersion in the practical-applicational issues that emerge in outpatient practice and in relation to diseases on breeding farms.

Prerequisites

Have passed the examinations for all the other medical subjects and for Forensic Medicine

The course, which is held in the Division of Clinical Medicine of the Animal Health Department, involves the active participation of the students in the clinical-diagnostic and therapeutic activities carried out in the Division’s surgeries, and in agri-zootechnical enterprises, on breeding farms and animal groups outside of the Faculty premises. <br />
<br />
In the course of this activity, students study the individual clinical cases and epidemic pathological situations in veterinary internal medicine under the supervision of the course professors, following the respective diagnostic, clinical, instrumental and laboratory procedures, with group discussions and seminars at the critical points and moments of the diagnostic procedure as well as for the choice and implementation of treatment, according to the cases placed at the disposal of the students. <br />

In the context of this learning pathway, which is preparatory to clinical practice, there are other cycles of scheduled lectures and monothematic seminars on pre-set topics of general interest, with special emphasis on the following subject matters: <br />

? The human and professional approach to owners of domestic animals reporting with internal medicine problems. <br />
<br />
? &nbs! p; &nb sp; Operational aspects of clinical investigation in internal medicine and of treatment in the breeding of animals in zootechnical production. <br />
<br />
? Problems inherent to the clinical approach and to the treatment of horses practising sporting activities, with special emphasis on doping and antidoping. <br />
<br />
? Reflections on Clinics and internal medicine in the nutritional choices of animal species of veterinary interest. <br />
<br />
? Elements of medical dietology and post-illness refeeding. <br />
<br />
? The civil and penal liability and ethical responsibility of the veterinary surgeon involved in diagnostic and therapeutic activities relating to internal medicine. <br />
