<br />The Course provides students with the essential concepts of general Toxicology regarding Toxicodynamics and Toxicokinetics, with particular emphasis to the action of toxins, the dose-response relationship concept, absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion, toxin biotransformation (Phase I and II reactions), bioactivation and bioaccumulation. The student is expected to be familiar with the characteristics of the toxic substances listed, with particular reference to the effects on the animal and to the antidote treatment to be used: pesticides, insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, rodenticides, molluscicides, waste substances: polychlorobiphenyl and dioxins, metals, metalloids, urea, nitrosamnes, nitrites and nitrates, chlorine, fluorine, arsenic, mercury, cadmium, lead, copper, hydrocyanic acid and cyanides, ethylene glycol, strong acids and bases, toxic gases, mycotoxins, animal and vegetable toxins. Last but not least, the student is expected to have knowledge of the work of the Veterinary Anti-Poison Centre and be acquainted with laboratory techniques
