FROM THE LIBRARY TO THE NET
Learning outcomes of the course unit
This course aims to facilitate access to and use of information sources, through learning is an effective method of research of appropriate techniques in order to obtain satisfactory results in every phase of searching for information. In summary, we have the objective to learn the essential skills necessary to achieve the desired scientific information from the most different literature sources.
Consists of a descriptive part and a practical part to a PC, the latter includes both classroom exercises that some simple self-assessment tests to be carried out between meetings.
At the end of the course learners will be able to:
Identify and use three approaches to literature search: retrieve, scan, search
cite references in the forms most commonly used biomedical literature
formulate the question: PICOM.
distinguish scientific studies
distinguish the sources of information.
identify and use the most important medical and scientific databases.
recognize the structure of a bibliographic record.
recognize the differences between the controlled vocabulary and free text in the literature search.
formulate strategies targeted research in different databases.
