Learning objectives

The class provides the student with general theoretical
ideas about the data acquisition process. The student must become able
to develop simple data acquisition programs by means of an evoluted
software tool which we use during the lab sessions

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of Mathematics
Course unit content
Measurement of physical entities through digital systems seens
in the wider field of the general problem of measurement. General
concepts related to the functioning of some common electronic
devices of common usage. Digital/Analog and Analog/Digital conversion.
Characteristics of a DAC converter. Ideal conversion curve and possible
discrepancies from the ideal behavior. General concepts of signal
analysis, Fourier series and its usage in the determination
of a physical entity under measure when it shows an evolutions in time with
a periodic behavior. Consequenses of the D/A conversion on such a signal
and Shannon theorem. Basic signal analysis.
