Integrated course unit module: GENERAL SURGERY AND ANESTHESIOLOGY

Learning objectives

<br />The student must acquire the necessary knowledge for an appropriate management of the surgical patient both in pre- and in postoperative period.

Prerequisites

<br />The student must have passed the following exams:<br />-         Physiopathology<br />-         General Pathology<br />-         Immunohaematology

Course unit content

<br />Acute abdomen<br />Appendicitis<br />Intestinal infarction<br />Peritonitis<br />Intestinal obstruction (mechanical and paralytic ileus)<br />Volvolus<br />Intestinal intussusception<br />Thyroid gland pathology of surgical interest<br />Pathology of breast: mastitis, fibrocystic disease, tumours<br />Wound classification<br />Healing of surgical wounds<br />Surgery in urgent and elective settings<br />The main postoperative complications, shock included<br />Acute and chronic infections: abscess, phlegmon, cellulites, pock, favus<br />Crural and inguinal hernias<br />Haemorrhoids and anal fistulas<br />For each pathology: risk factors, signs and symptoms, complications, surgical and pharmacological therapy.
