Learning objectives

This core module aims to provide students with an understanding of the basic principle of general pathology related to normal and disordered cell growth and to genetic disorders.

Course unit content

<br />Lectures will cover the following topics:<br />- hypertrophy, hyperplasia, metaplasia and neoplasia;<br />- differences between benign and malignant meoplasms;<br />- radiation carcinogenesis, chemical and viral carcinogenesis;<br />- oncogenes and cancer suppressor genes;<br />- behaviour of tumors including local effects, metastasis and non metastatic systemic effects;<br />- mendelian disorders;<br />- disorders with multifactorial inheritance;<br />- cytogenetic disorders.<br /> <br />
