Learning objectives

Learning knowledge of the normal procedure of birth and anomalies of childbirth, with particular reference to the appropriate medical and surgical methods of treatment. Fundamental knowledge on the health of the foetus during childbirth and the factors that can lead to its alteration.

Prerequisites

Fundamental knowledge of the anatomy of the pelvic region.

Course unit content

Terminology of childbirth. Progressive development: dynamic and mechanical phenomena. Chronology: the partogram. Monitoring maternal and foetal wellness. Anomalies: dynamic and mechanical dystocia. Stages of delivery in the case of anomalous presentation. Medical and surgical treatment of dystocia. Foetal distress and its treatment. Obstetric surgical operations.
