PRODUCT CRITICAL ANALYSIS
Learning outcomes of the course unit
Bringing students into contact with product engineering considerations, helping them to change their point of view from customers/product users to designers/developers of new products.
Course contents summary
The course is principally focused on the deconstruction and analysis of a series of products with specific features in function of: i) a growing level of complexity in terms of number of parts, ii) a progressively increasing integration of their mechanical, thermal and electrical aspects. Product disassembly reveals the functions performed by the various components, the physical phenomena utilised, the designer’s approach and the various skills required for the product’s design. The course encourages the use of the various graphic representational techniques available to designers (from sketches to CAD, and software tools for the compilation of technical reports. The course was also designed to accustom students to working in a group.
