Course contents summary
Within the context of the satire of Lucilius and Juvenal, the course will examine significant passages in relation to the so-called indignatio from the metrical, stylistic and content point of view, which is not the prerogative of Juvenal alone. The hypothesis to be demonstrated is that so-called “Bakhtinian double-voicing” may be paralleled by a “tragic double-voicing” in the indignatio.
In-depth examination and discussion of topics assigned for individual research projects.
Specialised readings on research topics.
The course consists of classroom lectures and exercises plus weekly tutorials.
Assessment consists of an oral exam covering the various syllabus topics and discussion of an individual research project agreed upon with the teacher.
