Familiarity with the philological criteria governing the preparation of critical editions of musical monuments of the past.
Course contents summary
Course title: Publication and criticism of the musical text.
The National Edition of the works of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina will form the subject of observation of the course, which will define the concept of critical edition of a musical text, drawn from concordant sources for the purpose of correct interpretation in performance. In particular the course will discuss the circumstances through which the critical text reaches a plausible definition in historical and exegetic terms, and will explore issues connected with correct performance practice.
