Learning objectives

The course aims to familiarise students with the language, history and literature of seventeenth-century France, through the reading of dramatic texts contained in vol. I of the Beaubourg literary anthology/history and an analytical in-depth study of two comedies by Molière.

Course unit content

<p>The century of the theatre:from Corneille to Molière</p>
<p>Within the framework of a brief outline of seventeenth-century literary history, the course will present a series of dramatic texts, from baroque to classicism.</p>
<p>In addition to a certain number of works, presented in the form of an anthology, Les Précieuses ridicules and Le Malade imaginaire by Molière will be read in their entirety.</p>
<p>The course is aimed at second-year foreign language students and carries 5 learning credits.</p>
<p>In addition to two comedies by Molière which will be analysed during the course and which are to be read in an unabridged French edition (preferably Larousse or Folio Gallimard), students are required to study seventeenth-century literary history in Bertini et alii, Beaubourg, Auteurs, textes et genres de la littérature française, Einaudi Scuola, Vol I , pages 142-270. <br />

Teaching methods
