Learning objectives

By the end of the course students will be required to be able to produce a written translation in French from Italian, in accordance with the methodology presented during the course as evidence of their awareness of the problems connected to translation processes in the passage from one language to another and showing their ability to offer satisfactory solutions with regard to the usability of the text.

Prerequisites

Good knowledge of written and spoken French.

Course unit content

Course title: Translation processes. <br />
After a general introduction to the history of translation and translation issues, the course will provide students with the essential methodological tools for approaching translation into French. The corpus of texts examined will be from the fields of journalism (French dailies and weeklies), advertising (slogans and micro-texts) and literature with reference to twentieth-century texts. The course will be held in French. <br />

Teaching methods

The course will be based mainly on the teacher’s oral lectures. However students will be required to provide, throughout the whole course of the lectures, a series of written papers which will allow an ongoing evaluation of their progress. <br />
The written exam will consist of a translation from Italian into French, and the oral exam will consist of a translation from French into Italian. The latter will focus on one of the novels indicated in the reading list. <br />
