Learning objectives

The course explains the principles governing the balance of deformable bodies. Treatment will be limited to the case of elastic bodies in small deformations. The aim is to supply tools for solving beam systems that are not fixed statically and to determine their corresponding state of tension.

Prerequisites

Statics, laboratory for construction II

Course unit content

Introduction. Notion of Stress. Stress and deformation. Constituent Equations. Simple bending. Analysis and design of sagging beams. Shearing stresses, Torsion. Transformations of stresses and deformations. Deformation of beams. Resolution of hyperstatic systems.
