Learning objectives

At the end of the course, the students will have gained some knowledge of language acquisition in general with reference to Italian as both L1 and L2. They will also have acquired basic skills regarding the teaching of Italian to native and non-native speakers. <br />
At the end of the course, students will have dealt with and discussed the issue of bilingualism in a language learning/ teaching research context. <br />

Course unit content

<p>The course is divided into two parts, the first dealing with the mechanisms involved in language acquisition, and the second focussing on aspects of language-teaching applications. Special emphasis is given to the learning/teaching processes of Italian in non-native speakers, as compared to the learning of Italian as L1. <br />
Lectures focus on teaching Italian to bilingual learners in an L2 context and in particular on the relevant teaching tools suitable for their linguistic and cultural needs. <br />
