Learning outcomes of the course unit
The course aimed to supply the basic notions of the Greek and Roman classic art, with particular attention to the mechanisms of the communication in the their historical frames and in the cultural, literary and philosophical context.
Course contents summary
Course Title 2008/2009 : The visual narration in the Greek and Roman art.
The course will be dedicated to the analysis of communication systems in the Greek and Roman art, it is from the part of ' ' narrator' ' that from the part of ' ' reading' ': i.e. narrative systems, codes of representation, levels and reading ways, in their anthropological and cultural context . The course will be articulated in two modules: Module A: image and communication in the Greek art from the archaism to the hellenisme . Module B : image and communication in the Roman art from the monarchy to the late antiquity. Didactic supports for the preparation of the handbooks part and specific seminaries concerning technological aspects of the artistic production (material and technical, the contribution of archaeometry ), restoration and communication will be also organized . Moreover a study journey in Pompeii, Herculaneum, Paestum, Naples museums and monuments will be organized.

For the course: didactic materials and short specific readings
The preparation of the handbook's parts is supported from practices and seminaries (bibliographical and multimedia instruments for the study of the ancient art, the Greek ceramics technological and morphologic aspects, the Greek architecture, the Roman mosaic historical aspects and archaeometric research, the Roman painting technical aspects and their restoration). Special attention will be given to the use of digital technologies in the ancient documents restoration and resetting( interdisciplinary seminary in the XVI the Week of the scientific culture ). The frontal lessons is equipped from illustrative material and the slides are to disposition of the students. The personal experience of the ancient monuments is facilitated visiting to the museums. The didactic internationalization is realized through the presence of teacher from the universities connected in the Socrates program.
The acquaintance of the handbook's notions will be demonstrated through two written tests, one for the Greek part and one for the Roman part, preliminary to the oral examination. Two short texts will be also elaborated, concerning one argument dealt in the course: the deepening bibliography is supplied.
