Learning outcomes of the course unit
Objectives of the course (preferably expressed in terms of learning outcomes and competences): The aim of the course is to investigate the principal and most recent concepts of the biology of the cell, as individual and in the context of tissues. Relations between structure and function at the molecular level will be discussed as well as the cytoscheletron dynamism, the structure and function of sub-cellular organelles, the composition and the role of cellular membranes.
Course contents summary
The course contains two modules, from Giovanna Visioli and Roberto Perris.
Module 1 correspond to Prof. Giovanna Visioli-The nucleus- the nuclear envelope and vesicular and molecular traffic between nucleus and cytoplasm-nucleus internal organization- the nucleolus- nucleus during mitosis- synthesis and transport of proteins in different sub-cellular compartments- the endoplasmic reticulum- the Golgi apparatus- the regulation of vesicular transport- the lysosomes, the cellular energy flux- mitochondria: structure, organization, function- chloroplasts: structure, organization and function- peroxisomes : functions and assembly.
