LABORATORY SAFETY
Learning outcomes of the course unit
Students will learn concepts of safety, risks, risk assessment and risk prevention (and their legal aspects) in the research lab environment, respect to the different kind of exposures described.
Course contents summary
Concepts of risk, prevention, toxicity and genotoxicity.
Chemical risk: chemicals as source of hazard; chemical classification, properties and risks; chemical risk prevention; legislative aspects.
Biological risk: biological risk assessment; way of infection and transmission of biological agents; classes of biological agents; biological risk prevention; legislative aspects.
Ionizing radiations: source of ionizing radiations; radioactive material handling; radioprotection and legislation.
Non-ionizing radiations: RF-MW radiations; magnetic fields and ELF, IR-UV-VIS radiations; ultrasounds; legislation
Laser: sources and classification; use of laser sources; risk assessment and prevention; protection devices; legislative aspects.
Videoterminals: risk assessment and prevention; healt monitoring and legislative aspects.
Fire risk: risk assessment and management; emergency plans.
