Learning outcomes of the course unit
This course has been designed to provide an initial theoretical andpractical approach to computer tools currently in use by students inthe biological-naturalistic field during their studies and inpreparation of the degree thesis.
Course contents summary
Introduction to operating systems. Function and access to the computerlab. Disk space. Computerspreadsheets: management and graphic realisation. Multimediapresentations: slide preparation, insertion of standard objects andgraphs, links between slides, links to other presentations, customanimations.
Applied statistics with SPSS:frequency distributions and tables; descriptive statistics; explorativeanalysis: box & whisker plot; contingency tables; comparison ofmedia: single, independent and paired sample t test; ANOVA analysis forclassification criteria; general linear model: univaried analysis withstandard and custom models; linear regression and correlation analysis;multivariate analysis of variance: variable reduction and factoranalysis, multidimensional scaling.
