Learning outcomes of the course unit
Basic knowledge of techniques currently used for the genetic modification in superior animals in order to:
Improving of physiolgical and anatomical features
Production of proteins of pharamceutical interest (animal pharming)
Development of animal systems for studying human pathologies
Use of transgenic animal for xenotransplants.Ethic,social, legal and environmental implications, related to introductionof transgenic animals, will bevaluated. Possible alternatives to theuse of transgenic animals in applied and basic research willbe also considered.
Basic knowledge of embryology (cellular and biochemical basis offertilization, segmentation and differentiation) and molecular genetics.
