Learning outcomes of the course unit
The course provides basic knowledge about analogue electronic circuits, with emphasis on linear amplifiers.

Course contents summary
Linearisation techniques of electronic circuits.
Analog and digital signal. Linearity condition and linear distortion. Small-signal equivalent circuits and linearisation. Small-signal equivalent of diode, BJT in active region and MOS in saturation.
2-port linear amplifiers and network functions
Linear amplifiers parameters: open-circuit voltage gain, short-circuit current gain, output and input resistance, trans-resistance and trans-conductance. Loaded voltage/current gain and effect of the input resistance.
Single-transistor BJT amplifiers
Common-emitter amplifier: biasing techniques and small-signal DC analysis. Common-collector and common-base amplifiers. Multi-stage amplifiers.
Differential amplifier with resistive load.
High-frequency analysis of C.E. and C.C. Amplifiers: Bode diagrams.
Power amplifiers basics
Large signal operation of C.E. amplifier. Harmonic distortion. Power efficiency: definition. Calculation of efficiency for the class-A, DC coupled C.E. Amplifier. Class A, AB, B and C.
Single-transistor MOS amplifiers
Common-source, common-gate and common-drain: low-frequency analysis.
Active loads.
Common-emitter and common-source amplifier with active load.
Feed-back in amplifiers
Negative and positive feed-back. Partial and total desensitization. Stability in feed-back amplifiers: Bode's rule. Gain-bandwidth trade-off in first-order amplifier with feed-back-
Operational Amplifiers (opamp's)
Opamp's: definition, I/O characteristic, virtual short-circuit. Open-loop transfer function of compensated opamp's. Applications of opamp's: inverting and non-inverting amplifiers, follower, sum-difference amplifier, integrator.
Non-linear circuits
Diode-based rectifier; single sine-wave precision rectifier with opamp.
