Learning objectives

<br />Students must acquire general concepts of hygiene and preventive medicine for prevention and promotion of health through the study of molecular epidemiology of transmittable diseases and chronic degenerative diseases.<br /> 

Prerequisites

Getting through Fisiologia Generale and Biochimica Applicata.

Course unit content

<br />Hygiene: definition and purposes.<br />Epidemiology: application of epidemiology.<br />Epidemiological method.<br />Sources of statistical-epidemiological data. . Main measures in epidemiology: proportions and rates; incidence and prevalence; mortality and lethality. Epidemiological measures of risk: attributable risk, relative risk.<br />Epidemiological studies: ecological, cross-sectional, case-control, cohort studies. Experimental studies.<br />Efficacy assessment of medical interventions; ethical and privacy aspects .<br />General epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases.<br />Infection sources; ways of income and elimination of pathogenic micro-organisms; propagation modality; notification, isolation, diagnostic assessment, disinfection, asepsis, antisepsis.<br />Active immune prophylaxis : composition of the vaccine; the main vaccines; production of new vaccines; the vaccine strategies.<br />Passive immune prophylaxis; chemio-prophylaxis.<br />Means and strategies of prevention<br />Tertiary, secondary, primary prevention.<br />Epidemiology and prevention of viral Hepatitis; of HIV; of Tetanus; of Tuberculosis; of respiratory viral infection.<br />Epidemiology and prevention of chronic-degenerate pathologies.<br />Food education; hygiene of foods, feed infection and toxinfection.<br />Health and atmosphere: quality of air and waters.<br />Pollution of atmosphere.<br /> Pollution of air and superficial and deep waters. Drinkability  of waters, purification of drainages.<br />Elements of organization and sanitary legislation.<br /> <br /> <br />
