Learning objectives

The student will acquire a basic knowledge of economics and specific knowledge of the economics of zootechnical production, agri-food economics, territorial and rural environmental planning and management, and botany.

Course unit content

The Italian and European zootechnical framework. Review of economic theory. Agricultural products market. Farming and business. The farm economic balance sheet. Production economics. Organisation of producers. Tax reform in agriculture. Sources of statistical information in agriculture. Collection of economic data of breeding farms. Analysis of zootechnical enterprises. Analysis of the efficiency of breeding farms. <br />
Consumer, enterprise and market. Components of agri-food system. Transformation of agriculture. Agri-food industry. Reorganisation of the distribution system. Public interventions. UE policies for the agricultural sector, rural development, food safety and safety for the environment.<br />
Agriculture and rural environment. Environmental policies and sustainable development. Planning and territory. Breeding and environmental resources. Environmental evaluation. Evaluation in the context of projects.<br />
The constituent elements of living organisms: organic substance and inorganic substance. Autotrophism and heterotrophism. Some aspects of plant metabolism: photosynthesis, assimilation of nitrogen, assumption of the main mineral elements. Prokaryotes. Saprophytism and symbiosis. Rhizobium-leguminous plants symbiosis. Eukaryotes: cell wall, plastids, vacuoles. Cell development and differentiation. Plant tissues and their functions. Vegetative and reproductive apparatus. Products of secondary metabolism. Angiosperm.<br />
