Learning objectives

Complete the knowledge of the training course in the field of transfusion safety, through the understanding of a complex path that starts from the moment of eligibility for donation and reaches post-transfusion surveillance for the reporting of any transfusion reactions.

Prerequisites

Having attended classes in immunology and immunohematology and related techniques.

Course unit content

The proposed path that goes from the methods of recruiting potential blood donors to the transfusion of blood components, accelerating all the stages as required by the Decree of 2 November 2015 "Provisions relating to the quality and safety requirements of blood and blood components"

Full programme

The origins of blood transfusion
- Review of blood and its components, erythrocyte antigens, blood groups and Rh factor
- The legislation for transfusion safety
- Costs
- The donation (who can donate, what can donate, laboratory investigations on the donor)
- Autotransfusion
- Indications for transfusion of: whole blood, erythrocyte concentrates, platelet concentrates, fresh frozen plasma
- The transfusion technique

Teaching methods

Lessons will take place in the presence, in compliance with safety standards, except for further provisions due to the possible continuation of the health emergency and provide for the active participation of the student.

Assessment methods and criteria

Learning will be verified through specific closed or open-ended tests that will determine the suitability of the student.

Other information

The achievement of the credits requires the obligation to attend all the scheduled hours.
