## Learning outcomes of the course unit

D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

At the end of the educational activities, students will master knowledges and understanding of basic topics in applied physics and mathematics, and in computer sciences. The course aims to bring students to know and understand in the context of Veterinary Sciences:In particular the statistical indices, the information in a table of data, the distributions of Bernoulli and Gauss; the theoretical foundations of computer basic, vocabulary and main instruments for use competent Informatics; the physical tools preparatory to other topics: chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, biomechanics, radiology.

D2 - APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

To correctly apply formulae and concepts; to be able to understand and solve autonomously problems of applied physics and mathematics; to be able to understand correctly the text of theoretical questions and problems. To apply the learned knowledge to solve concrete problems (such as e.g., the problem of dosing the elements when preparing a medicine to administer to an animal or the problem of extracting significant information from a large number of data, also using probabilistic tools). To be able to use in a competent way computer science in the context of veterinary sciences, to use autonomously spreadsheets to create simple graphs and simple elaborations of data. Finally, to be able to perform bibliographic researches in the main databases concerning veterinary sciences.

D3 - MAKING JUDGMENTS

To be able to use the knowledge and understanding of the course topics to solve simple problems, autonomously evaluating the better and fastest solution for the problem itself. To be able to analyze quantitative data and to control research hypotheses through simple statistical analyses.To know how to answer questions on the studied topics in a critical way. Students must be able to evaluate coherence and correctness of results obtained by themselves or by others

D4 - COMMUNICATION SKILLS

To be able to answer questions in a synthetic and rigorous way, on the studied topics; to be able to express in an immediately understandable language concepts and comments to multiple answer questions. Through the front lectures and the assistance of the teacher, the students acquire the specific and appropriate scientific vocabulary, applied to the specific topics learned in each module.

D5 - LEARNING SKILLS

The student who has attended the modular course, is able to deepen autonomously his/her knowledge in statistics and probability, of ppalied physics and of informatics. He/She will also be able to consult specialized textbook, even outside the topics illustrated during the lectures. This to facilitate the entry in the labour market as well as a second-level study in fileds requiring knowledges in the three given fields.

## Prerequisites

Operations on the set of real numbers, with logarithms, exponential and trigonometric functions.

## Course contents summary

The integrated course of Physics, Statistics and Informatics presents the tools necessary to get into veterinary science. The general contents are:

PHYSICS: 1) Foundations of mechanics. 2) Thermodynamics and Thermodynamics. 3) Fluid statics and fluid dynamics. 4) Electricity, Magnetism and electrical currents. 5) Waves, acoustics. 6) Radiation and Dosimetry. 7) Optics and Spectroscopy.

MATHEMATICS (STATISTICS): 1) Fundamentals of mathematics and logic. 2) Basic notions of descriptive Statistics. 3) Combinatory and probability theory. Distribution of Gauss and Bernoulli.

COMPUTERS: 1) Architecture of the computer and foundations. 2) Operating Systems. 3) Software Applications. 4) The networks and the web. 5) Multimedia '.

## Teaching methods

Lessons will be given on-line via the Teams platform. Teaching activities will be carried out via slide-based lessons and written exercises. Slides will be uploaded on the Elly platform once a week. To download the slides it is necessary that students subscribes to the platform. Slides are considered integral part of the teaching material. Teaching methods and exam modalities could change, due to the SARS-CoV-2 emergency. Variations will be communicated in due time.

## Assessment methods and criteria

The examination consists of three written tests for the three distinct modules: FIS,MAT,INF .

The final mark of each written test ranges from 0 to 30 cum laude. Sufficiency is achieved with a score of 18 or higher. The final mark for the integrated course is given by the arithmetic mean of the three votes. Sufficiency must be achieved in each module.

It is mandataory to subscribe for each written text on the ESSE3 platform: https://unipr.esse3.cineca.it/Home.do . In ESSE3 each of the written modular texts is marked as POROVA PARZIALE (= final text of a module, i.e. FIS, MAT, INF). For the official registration i salso mandatory to subscibe for an APPELLO, whose date is conocmitant with the PROVE PARZIALI.

A student can and may subscribe for one, two or all three texts on the occasion of an APPELLO: the results of each partial texts will be held valid for one academic year.

Note: if a students wants to perform all three written texts MUST also subscirbe for the corresponding APPELLO; he/she must also do this on the occasion of the last or last two PROVE PARZIALI

The APPELLO will be and official “record producing” one, with previous publication of the results: after the correction of the PROVE PARZIALI we will publish a draft of the official record; the draft will be kept as such for 7 days, during which the student has the possibility to reject the mark: note that e reject corresponds to a withdrawal, not to an objection. Objections must be send to the single professors before the final record. Also the results of the PROVE PARZIALI will be published on ESSE3

For the first-year students it is not possible to give a final exam before the end of the first semester or outside the Easter break

Obtaining the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) for the corresponding modules in the program allows the student to be exempted from the test.

The examination is intended to determine whether the student knows and understands

1) the statistical indexes and tables of data outputs,

2) the Bernoulli and Gauss distributions with the ability to locate and study them;

3) the theoretical foundations of computer basic, vocabulary and main instruments for use competent Informatics;

4) the elements of physics necessary for other disciplines such as chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, biomechanics, and physical technologies in basic research and in diagnostic practice.
