Integrated course unit module: SPORTS AND LABORATORY

Learning objectives

The course aims to enable the student to know and understand the main
laboratory tests, in order to achieve the ability to use the knowledge and
understanding gained in identifying the patient's problems related to the
work activity.

Prerequisites

Mandatory propedeutic examinations are defined by the Course Council.

Course unit content

The first lessons cover general topics regard to biological materials and
preparation of the patient.
The second part of the course covers the main laboratory tests in relation
to the work activity.

Introduction to laboratory medicine. Laboratory haematology.
The liver disease laboratory.
The laboratory in cardiovascular diseases.
The laboratory and electrolytes.

The slides used during the lectures will be made available on the Elly Platform.

Teaching methods

The course will be conducted through interactive lectures in front of the students, with the aid of illustrative material that, at the end of the course, will be made available to students on Elly site (https://elly2020.medicina.unipr.it/) at the pages of the course.
Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented.
During the lessons we will discuss the issues related to laboratory tests and their interpretation topic will be exposed, encouraging students to ask questions on the basis of references that will be provided.

Assessment methods and criteria

No interim examination. During the oral examination of the Course of Laboratory Medicine, one of the questions will concern Clinical Pathology; it will allow to verify whether the student has achieved the goal of knowledge and understanding of the content and if it is able to apply the knowledge gained.
The student will be evaluated with votes ranging from 0 to 30, with 18 being the lowest vote to positively pass the exam. The final vote will be decided by mutual agreement among the teachers of the integrated course.
