Integrated course unit module: INTERNSHIP I YEAR

Learning objectives

The student must be able to:
1) fulfill the responsibilities related to one's role:
respect the obligations of the internship
don't be selective in your activities
carry out the assigned work
inquire or ask for help before starting unfamiliar activities
2) recognize the structure in which it is located and the different professional figures:
identify the operational unit and the reference department
identify the structural characteristics of the operating unit
recognize the different professional figures and their roles
3) operate respecting rights and roles:
respect the rights of individuals and their families
respect the role of other professionals and collaborate with them
give information promptly and politely
use clear and appropriate language for different situations
respect privacy

4) read, understand, collect and report data based on the nursing process
read and understand the information given in the delivery or in the nursing card
collect and record the data on the medical record, in the space reserved for nurses
collect and record the objective and subjective data of the person, with respect to the various life activities
identify nursing diagnoses
identify possible assistance interventions, with respect to the different diagnoses inf.

5) apply appropriate behaviors for the prevention of hospital infections
perform social and / or antiseptic and / or alcoholic hand washing, as needed
apply the concepts of cleaning, antisepsis, disinfection and sterilization
use the different types of PPE ( personal protective equipment)
dressing a wound
identify the types of patients most exposed to infections6) implement welfare interventions consistent with the person's abilities:
inquire about the person's pathology even if not addressed theoretically
implement the interventions in due time
replace or assist the person in carrying out life activities
implement the interventions in a conscious way (know the reasons for the interventions and the possible consequences)
prepare, use and store the material ready for use
use the premises and materials suitable for the various situations

7) satisfy the needs of hygiene and clothing of the person:
unoccupied bed making
busy bed making
total hygiene
partial hygiene
nail cut
8) satisfy the person's need for mobilization:
help the person: to assume the sitting position in the bed, to assume the position in an armchair when walking in bed mobilization
use the necessary aids
9) satisfy the need for breathing and temperature control

detect: respiratory rate, type of breath, pulse characteristics, heart rate, blood pressure, axillary and rectal temperature,
perform the E.C.G.
10) satisfy the need for food
recognize the main diets
help the person in preparing and taking the meal
11) satisfy the need for urinary and fecal elimination
collect and measure diuresis
recognize the main changes in diuresis, urine, urination
recognize changes in fecal function
apply the aids favoring elimination
12) carry out the assessment to the person taken in charge
systematically detect and classify objective and subjective data
formulate actual and potential nursing diagnoses

Prerequisites

the student must have successfully passed the 1st year clinical laboratory and the basic activities laboratory

Teaching methods

nternship to be carried out in hospital and local outpatient clinics (health houses) where the student is assisted by a clinical tutor

Assessment methods and criteria

the student will have to produce on paper an assistance plan concerning a clinical case observed in the internship with special reference to a life activity and present it with the help of slides to the examining commission that will question him on the motivation of the assistance acts

compulsory attendance for a total of 120 hours
