Learning objectives


The student must demonstrate knowledge of the main points of first aid competence for workers who may experience acute health problems in a workplace (loss of consciousness with syncopal episode, trauma, acute intoxication, burns) and to implement the basic and more correct procedures for activating the rescue chain to allow the arrival of the advanced rescue team.

Course unit content


The course develops knowledge relating to the main issues of emergency medical pathology and the approach to first aid. The topics refer to cardiovascular and respiratory acute pathology together with basic elements related to trauma approach. Specific considerations on shock, acute dyspnea, respiratory failure, syncope, hemorrhage, intoxications, burn. A specific chapter concerns the maneuvers to be implemented in an emergency through the BLSD (Basic Life Support and Defibrillation) methods.

Teaching methods


The course will be held through lectures to Students either in the classroom (“in presenza”) or in synchronous-streaming (“in telepresenza”) on the Teams platform. Therefore, the opportunity of Student/Teacher interaction will be preserved both face to face and remotely, by the simultaneous use of the Teams platform.
Lectures will be supported by slide presentations, which will be available to students on the Elly platform (https://elly2020.medicina.unipr.it/).

Assessment methods and criteria


Oral examination.
In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:
